First day

As part of the final year of the Diagnostic Radiography degree we get to choose a 3 week elective placement. Today was my first day in PET / CT.

Wow have I learnt a lot about PET / CT.
Starting at the beginning
Today's scans were all for Oncology; Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, Lung cancer and upper GI cancer. The scans allow cancers to be staged, response to treatment evaluated and recurrence checked for. Treatment can then be planned and tailored. Some people may have 6 or 7 scans during the course of their treatment.

Some interesting facts
The CT part of the scan typically took just 15 seconds, with the whole PET / CT scan taking just 30 mins. PET / CT has its own language ' trues, randoms, singles, beds'. PET / CT can have banana artefacts.
